Summary/Objective

The People & Culture Intern will support the Vice President of People & Culture with day-to-day human resources activities, as well as assist in planning and implementing long-term department and organizational goals. The position will ideally have prior experience assisting with administrative tasks, along with strong Microsoft Office skills specifically in Outlook and Excel. This position routinely handles highly sensitive and/or confidential information and will represent CEDA in a variety of capacities. Must demonstrate good judgment, an ability to be approachable and professional, solid problem solving skills, an ability to handle multiple tasks, an ability to be self-motivated and well organized, and maintain strict confidentiality.

Essential Functions

  • Assists with HR administrative duties, such as, but not limited to, entering background check information, organizing digital files, and researching for presentations.
  • Conducting personnel file management as appropriate and directed.
  • Support employee engagement by assisting in creating employee surveys.
  • Assisting talent acquisition duties such as scheduling candidates, performing initial phone screens, and ensuring that the recruiting tracker is completed accurately.
  • Assist with onboarding duties such as sending new hires their onboarding paperwork and assisting hiring managers in onboard scheduling.
  • Assist in organizational compliance, such as tracking employee completion of annual sexual harassment training and tracking updates to Policies and Procedures.
  • Provide logistical support for employee and professional development events.
  • Interact with employees across all levels of the organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Must be highly organized and pay close attention to detail.
  • Computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook.


Work Environment/Travel

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works mostly in an office environment that is quiet to moderately loud, depending on the work area. Some local, county, or state travel may be required, including overnight stays. Employee is required to sit, use hands, stand, stoop, walk, talk, and listen while performing duties. General office equipment including personal computers, scanners, copiers, faxes, desk- and smartphones, and software programs. Occasional travel of distance may be required, especially suburban Cook County. If using a personal vehicle, must have a valid driver's license and auto insurance that meets State requirements.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing/vision.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

It is a temporary administrative support level position as designated by the CEDA Employee Handbook, required to work 10-20 hours per week, including potential evenings, weekends, and odd hours.

Required Education and Experience

  • Currently enrolled in High School with an interest in Human Resource/Nonprofit administration and/or management as a career path, or
  • Currently enrolled or graduated from undergraduate program, preferably Human Resources or nonprofit concentration.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Prior experience assisting with administrative tasks, along with strong Microsoft Office skills specifically in Outlook and Excel.
