Job Description

As a member of the Communications and Marketing Team in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, the writer plays an important role in telling the story and sharing the impact of the work that is happening in the college.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, or a related field or equivalent training and/or experience.
* Portfolio that demonstrates experience researching, writing, and editing communications for a variety of audiences for a variety of media such as news/feature stories, web pages, newsletters, student recruitment publications, social media, and marketing materials (please submit samples/portfolio at the time of application).
* Demonstrated experience with MS Office.
* Excellent organizational and communication skills.
* Demonstrated experience planning, organizing, prioritizing, and working independently to deliver content and products on schedule and, at times, on short notice.
* Ability to work with a variety of individuals as well as cross-functional teams, including faculty, students, and partners inside and outside of the college.

Preferred Qualifications

* Master's degree in English, communications, journalism, or a related field.
* Prior experience working in communications, public relations, advancement/development, marketing, or a related field in a higher education setting.
* Prior experience writing about topics related to business, cybersecurity, and marketing.
* Knowledge of AP style and/or the university's style guide and brand.
* Basic photography experience.
* Demonstrated experience working with web Content Management Systems (CMS) such as Ensemble or WordPress.
