Job Description

The Virginia Tech Economics Department seeks a collegiate faculty member at the Assistant Professor level in decision theory, behavioral economics and game theory. The candidate will contribute to the Behavioral Decision Sciences initiative in the College of Science. Collegiate faculty members have primary duties in curriculum development and instruction, including upper division teaching, undergraduate research supervision, and related scholarly activity. Instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels will be in both the Economics and Behavioral Decision Sciences programs at Virginia Tech with a focus on transdisciplinary courses, especially in the intersection of Economics and Psychology. These are full-time multi-year appointments (three years for assistant professor) open to indefinite multi-year renewals upon successful review. Curriculum development will include making significant contributions to instruction and the development of current and new courses, development of
curriculum enhancements and innovative pedagogy. Continued development of professional capabilities and participation in scholarly activities is a must and includes travel to and participation in professional conferences and societies, as well as participation in department, college, and university service and
governance and professional service.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Economics, or a related field, with a strong emphasis on behavioral methods; have active interest in inculcating these techniques in multiple curricula; and possess strong promise for being a collaborative leader in the instructional mission of the university. Applicants must have demonstrated experience with and commitment to teaching excellence; a desire to advise and teach a student body which is diverse with respect to socio-economic status, interests, and abilities; and commitment/sensitivity to address issues of diversity in the university community.

Preferred Qualifications

Desirable characteristics include a record of pedagogical achievement and vision and creativity relevant to instruction. Preference will be given to candidates with experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching, with a record of achievement as might be demonstrated by teaching awards, during a previous faculty appointment, or graduate teaching experience
