We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced research scientist to join our team as a Group Manager

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and coordinating the day-to-day operations of our laboratory, as well as conducting independent research in the area of antimicrobial discovery and development. The successful candidate will work on specific projects which will encompass identification and validation of novel antifungal and antimicrobial targets and characterization of molecular mechanisms of drug resistance.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a diverse and innovative group of scientists discovering and developing new antimicrobials for the treatment of infectious diseases and drug-resistant pathogens. We are located in the Center of One Health Research (COHR), a recently renovated, highly collaborative, and interdisciplinary vibrant research environment and state-of-the-art core facilities on Virginia Tech's campus in Blacksburg. The Group Manager will be critical in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of Seleem labs, supporting the operational scientific research. Specific responsibilities include the following:
*Conduct research and work cooperatively with others under the supervision and collaboration with your Principal Investigator.
*Collaborate with your Principal Investigator and research group in the design and development of the research program
*Support the development of proposals and grant writing for research funding.
*Advise and train graduate students and postdocs.
*Assist in manuscript writing.
*Manage the budget and spending oversight for the lab - including placing orders for materials and supplies, negotiating with vendors, and cost analysis of research projects.
*Administer lab safety programs, and SOP's to ensure high standards of health and safety and train and monitor laboratory members as needed to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
*Oversight of essential equipment and maintenance.
*Manage yearly regulatory review process with various governing bodies to ensure compliance.

Required Qualifications

*Ph.D. in in microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, Pharmacy, biology, medical sciences or related field.
*Strong communication, and critical thinking skills.
*Have a knowledge and expertise in research and animal models and IACUC protocols demonstrated by scientific publications.
*Ability to work with infectious agents.

Preferred Qualifications

*Prior research experience in antimicrobial, microbiology, or drug discovery, including animal models.
