Job Description

To support the College of Veterinary Medicine curriculum which is designed using the Multidiscipline Laboratory (MDL) concept where a central staff provides support and technical assistance for student labs. This position provides primary coordination and support for first through third year DVM curricular courses (such as Bacteriology, Pharmacology, Clinical Techniques, Toxicology, Introduction to Anesthesiology, Radiology and Surgery, Clinical Nutrition etc.) This is a restricted staff position, with the potential to renew based upon the needs of the MDL team

Required Qualifications

Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT); BS in Biology or related field or equivalent in training and experience. Considerable knowledge and experience in general laboratory operations and equipment. Basic knowledge of chemistry and solution preparation needed. Knowledge of animal (large & small) handling and restraint techniques. Familiarity with veterinary terminology as related to techniques and surgery. Ability to work efficiently and to organize equipment/supplies and work without supervision required and experience in these areas. Ability to prioritize and coordinate several tasks at once, follow through on responsibilities such as equipment repairs and maintenance requests and handle detailed paperwork including accurate inventory listings required. Knowledge of computers with emphasis on word processing and simple spread sheets.

Preferred Qualifications

Degree/coursework in Biology, Animal Science, Dairy Science, Veterinary Technology or related area. Course work in bacteriology, mycology, chemistry and animal techniques highly desired along with experience in a laboratory situation, preferably in bacteriology and veterinary assistance. Previous teaching lab assistance/support experience.
