Job Description

The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) provides a comprehensive array of support services for faculty and staff as they pursue and manage external funding projects. The office also functions as the steward of Virginia Tech's research portfolio and its staff is responsible for ensuring that all research proposals and projects comply with university, federal, and sponsor regulations, policies, and procedures.

The Proposal and Awards Specialist serves as part of the team facilitating award and proposal processing and entry into the university accounting system in a timely and efficient manner. Responsible for reviewing and interpreting award documents to ensure key information from the award terms and conditions are recorded appropriately in the University system to facilitate post award management of the project. Communicates establishment of new award or modification to existing awards to internal stakeholders. Processes project authorization notices (PAN) and establishes award files in accordance to office procedures. Serves as backup to the Senior Processing Coordinator for workflow between team members, quality control, training and training documentation. Assists manager and team in performing quality control checks of both manual and Robotic systems entry in accordance with OSP procedures.

This position is located in Blacksburg, VA and is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement following the relevant training.

Required Qualifications

- Associate's degree or equivalent level of training and/or experience.
- Familiarity with bookkeeping/accounting practices.
- Data entry experience.
- Experience in handling complex and confidential material.

Preferred Qualifications

- Familiarity of university accounting practices and procedures.
- Previous experience providing programmatic support in a professional office environment.

Additional Information

After relevant training is completed, this position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. There is an expectation of a weekly in-office presence (Blacksburg).

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
