As part of its growth, the Virginia Tech Honors College seeks a versatile Collegiate Assistant Professor with experience or interest in transdisciplinary collaboration to support its educational mission and collaborate around related scholarship (https://honorscollege.vt.edu/). We additionally value applicants from diverse academic backgrounds who can continue their own disciplinary and/or transdisciplinary research agenda.

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, this position supports the instructional and scholarly mission of the Virginia Tech Honors College. Virginia Tech Honors provides students with transdisciplinary and experiential learning opportunities through immersive courses and studios that require them to collaborate on real-world problems with faculty alongside trans-sector nonprofit, industry, government, university, and community partners. Honors College faculty and staff develop and implement student-centered and innovative approaches to undergraduate education that can be scaled across the university and beyond.

This is a 9-month Collegiate Assistant Professor position (non-tenure-track, multi-year faculty appointment) with opportunity for extended contracts and promotion. We seek a colleague who can closely collaborate in this small but growing unit around teaching, research, and service relevant to Honors College areas of focus. Current faculty have a variety of disciplinary backgrounds, and we encourage applicants from any discipline or field. This career path position will typically teach two courses per semester and will be responsible for conducting collaborative and independent research and service.

The Teaching Philosophy should touch on your experiences with, bases for, and approaches to teaching. The Research Statement should include both your current and future intended research foci in line with the expectations of this position. For the writing sample, you might include a peer-reviewed publication or a manuscript in process on which you are the sole or primary author, a book review or book chapter on which you are sole or primary author, or a dissertation sample. The sample syllabus can be for an existing class you have taught or a planned class you hope to teach in the future.

Required Qualifications

* A strong documented record of educational and/or academic accomplishments
* A proven ability to work collaboratively with students and academic/professional peers
* Experience with and/or demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring high-achieving students from a broad spectrum of disciplines
* Ability to teach qualitative/quantitative research methods and/or instruction of approaches to communicating research practices and outcomes
* Experience with and/or demonstrated commitment to inter- or trans-disciplinary and collaborative research and a willingness to cross disciplinary boundaries to address complex societal challenges
* An interest in teaching a range of course types and structures, such as collaborative teaching, introductory, active and experiential, project-based, and studio
* A commitment to equity and inclusion in the university community and classroom

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience teaching qualitative and quantitative research methods and/or instruction of approaches to communicating research practices and outcomes
* Demonstrated experience with collaborative teaching
* Experience with student-centered pedagogies, assessment, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning
* Experience working with trans-sector nonprofit, industry, government, university, and community partners
* An interest in socially relevant and responsible research, teaching, and service
