The Business Information Analyst plays a crucial role in the organization by leveraging data to inform strategic business decisions. This position involves collecting, analyzing, and interpreting complex data sets to provide actionable insights that contribute to improved operational efficiency, informed decision-making, and overall business success. Design and operation of executive dashboard and other reports for the units in the Division of Auxiliary and Business Services.

Reporting to the Chief of Staff for the Vice President of Auxiliary and Business Services, the incumbent:
* Supports teams to make strategic decisions by developing and improving data-driven analyses and analytic reporting.
* Creates reports, charts, graphs, and presentations to aid in proposing new strategies for successful business approaches and strategies.
* Provides clear, effective, and courteous services that advance and support the data management and reporting needs of the supported units.
* Is a champion for a data-driven, decision-making culture.
* Uses statistical methodology to identify and communicate trends that may impact the supported units and the university.
* Provides independent advanced knowledge, skills, and abilities to data development and review of reports.
* Solves business problems with efficient and effective service and technology solutions within the Division.
* Provides leadership and oversight to projects within the Division to help implement system functionality and report capability.
* Supports division leadership to research, gather, interpret, organize data into project management and other systems, and recommends solutions to improve general business processes and planning.

The incumbent also performs other duties as requested by supervisor, takes initiative to support the best interests of the department and a healthy work environment, strives to fulfill the terms in the Standards of Business Conduct, Virginia Tech's Principles of Community, and supports the university's motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).

Required Qualifications

Education
* Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Experience
* Proven experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or a related role.
* Project Management experience.
* Experience creating process documentation.

Skills
* Impeccable attention to detail.
* Excellent communication and customer service skills.
* A high degree of initiative and self-sufficiency, and the ability to work effectively individually and as part of group projects and teams.
* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically.
* Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects effectively.

Knowledge
* Strong proficiency in relational databases (such as SQL and Oracle); data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar; and with reporting and business intelligence tools
* Familiarity with statistical analysis tools and techniques.
* Proficient understanding of data and database management principles.
* Proficient understanding of statistics and data analysis principles and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

* Master's degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, or related field.
* Advanced skills in SQL, Excel, or other tools for data manipulation and analysis.
* Proficiency with multiple coding languages.
* Experience working in a higher education environment.
* Demonstrated experience and strong understanding of data security best practices.
* Impeccable business ethical standards, particularly related to the accurate reporting of data.
* Results-driven with a focus on delivering high-quality insights.

Additional Information

Initially the incumbent will be expected to work onsite. A hybrid work schedule will be possible after proven performance in the role.

Job Duties

Data Analysis & Reporting (50%; Essential)
* Conduct in-depth analysis of business data, identifying trends, patterns, and anomalies.
* Utilize statistical methods and data visualization tools to present findings in a clear and comprehensible manner.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and ensure accurate interpretation of results.
* Utilize multiple tools to extract, transform, and analyze data.
* Create reports, charts, graphs, and presentations to aid in proposing new strategies for successful business strategies.
* Create and maintain reports and dashboards that provide actionable insights to stakeholders.
* Create and present ad-hoc reports, data models, and deep dive analysis to provide clear observations so that managers can make more informed decisions.
* Customize reporting tools to meet the specific needs of different departments within the organization.
* Ensure timely and accurate delivery of reports to support decision-making processes.
* Communicate complex analytical findings clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical audiences.
* Collaborate with Division members to understand business issues and devise best way to develop appropriate diagnostic and/or tracking data that will translate business requirements into usable decision support tools.
* Create pipelines that connect data from one system to another and transform data from one format to another so that users can pull data from different systems for analysis and comparison.
* Conducts analysis of financial and other types of data, extracting and manipulating data from the university's information systems for fiscal data, position allocations, and staffing levels (FTE), then prepares and presents briefing reports.
* Synthesize existing data from previous years and create reports where applicable.
* Serves as the primary point of contact for all related data requests and analyses.

Project Management (30%; Essential)
* Manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
* Monitor project timelines and deliverables to ensure timely completion.
* Work closely with business units to understand their data-related goals and objectives.
* Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather and validate data requirements.
* Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in business intelligence.
* Evaluate and recommend new tools and methodologies to enhance data analysis capabilities.
* Create and maintain detailed documentation of business processes, requirements, and solutions.
* Ensure documentation is up-to-date and accessible to relevant stakeholders.
* Write and maintain system documentation, process flow analysis, and descriptions.

Data Management (20%; Essential)
* Develop and maintain robust data models to support ongoing analytical needs.
* Implement data quality standards and ensure the integrity and accuracy of information.
* Collaborate with IT teams to optimize data storage, retrieval, and processing.
* Translate business requirements into technical specifications for BI solutions.
