Overview

Blue Ridge Cancer Care (BRCC) is currently seeking a part-time staff pharmacist for its Oncology Retail Pharmacy. This position requires 24 hours of work per week, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:30 am and 5 pm. No weekends, call or major holidays. The staff pharmacist plays a crucial role in delivering optimal patient care as part of the BRCC healthcare team. Responsibilities include providing counseling and medications with a focus on accuracy and safety, as well as monitoring and documenting patient interventions.

Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities (including but not limited to)

  • Fills and dispenses prescriptions while maintaining and evaluating patient profiles.
  • Counsels' patients on proper use, possible side effects, safe handling, and potential interactions of their oncology medications.
  • Conducts and documents medication reviews and recommends appropriate interventions to optimize medication therapy.
  • Organizes and directs technician's workflow; verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifying order entries, charges, and inspections.
  • Assists with inventory control of medications. Orders supplies and medications. Receives and shelves medications.
  • Logs and dates all drugs that are being used. Checks drugs monthly for outdates. Keeps accurate temperature logs. Keeps accurate logs on all protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
  • Maintains confidentially of all information related to patients and medical staff.





Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the position will have the following background and experience:

Level 1

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of pharmacy
  • Current license as a Pharmacist in the State of Virginia
  • Position is entry level and requires 0-3 years experience as a registered pharmacist
  • Oncology background preferred but not required
  • May supervise the activities of pharmacy technicians

Level 2 (in addition to level 1 requirements)

  • Minimum three years experience as a registered pharmacist.
  • Prefer three years experience in a pharmacy
