Job Description

Georgia-Pacific's Wood and Fiber Supply (W&FS) organization ensures that the company's mills maintain a constant flow of logs, wood fiber and chips to sustain its tissue, packaging, paper and building products manufacturing operations. W&FS operates in some 15 U.S. states, and sources its wood from private lands owned by industrial, institutional, or individual landowners.

We are seeking a Chip Quality Technician for the Big Island Mill in Big Island, VA. The Chip Quality Lab Tech will perform a variety of quality and moisture content analysis ranging from chip product sampling and testing to instrument cleaning & calibration. Chip Quality Tech will also provide feedback to customers and suppliers via written, verbal and face to face communication regarding product quality.


What You Will Do

  • Maintaining a high level of safety awareness
  • Collecting data on wood chip & bark samples
  • Entering & maintaining the Rader data systems (chip classification machine)
  • Maintaining the Rader Classifier by routine cleanings and maintenance
  • Identifying quality non-conformance and notifying the Area Manager
  • Interface with customers and suppliers to continually improve product quality


Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • At least a 2-year technical Degree in Forestry or at least 4 years of forestry related experience
  • Valid Driver's License for local travel


What Will Put You Ahead

  • Forestry Internship experience or experience in a manufacturing or plant setting
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Forestry or Related Field
  • Experience with process improvement
  • Experience testing for quality
